The 3-5s Room

Learning through play

Preschool & ante-preschool nursery aged kids are natural learners, brimming with an eagerness to explore the world around them. As they start to develop their fine motor skills and communication abilities, their horizons expand, presenting endless opportunities for them to discover and learn. As a parent, you want to provide your child with the best foundation to set them on the path towards a successful future in primary school.

Our 3-5 year olds area consists of four spacious nursery rooms, all of which offer access to our expansive outdoor area and cabin. We understand the importance of providing a stimulating environment,, which is why we regularly update and change the layout to keep things fresh and engaging. The range of activities available is diverse and includes messy play, sand and water activities, creative tasks, physical play, imaginative play, reading time and trips into the community, all designed to encourage learning and development in a fun and interactive way.

Our secure outdoor play area is a valuable resource for the children, offering ample opportunities to use large and small climbing apparatus, as well as various sit and ride toys that help to develop their gross motor skills. Our team of dedicated staff ensure that the outdoor area is well-maintained and that the children can enjoy it safely, providing peace of mind for parents and guardians alike.

As well as offering full-day care we also offer funded places which mean your child may attend the nursery for 1140 hours over the academic year.

    These funding options include:
  • Monday to Thursday 8:30-4pm (term time)
  • Monday to Friday 9am-3pm (term time)
  • 3 full days 7:30-5:30pm (term time)

Pre-school & Ante-school Development

At our Smallworld Nursery, we believe in providing a diverse and engaging range of child-led activities on a daily basis, all in accordance with the Curriculum for Excellence. We actively involve the children in the planning process, encouraging them to share their ideas and preferences through the use of "mind-maps'' and a thinking tree. This way, they have a say in the topics and activities that are covered, ensuring that they remain interested and engaged. We change topics regularly to sustain their curiosity and enthusiasm.

In addition, we offer free-play time within a structured environment, allowing the children to select their preferred activity and promoting learning through play. We also provide opportunities for the children to practise and reinforce newly developed skills, as well as experiences that are new and challenging.

To ensure that your child receives personalised attention and care, we operate a key-worker system where a designated member of our staff will be assigned to your child. They will be responsible for planning and recording your child's time at the nursery, keeping you informed and involved in their development.

We also have specific email address for each room; each room has an iPad available to provide you with direct contact to a member of staff during opening hours should you need it.
