The Toddler Room

Creating Independence

Toddlers are natural learners, with an insatiable curiosity about the world around them. As they become more mobile, their horizons expand, presenting endless opportunities for exploration and discovery. As a parent, you want to provide the best guidance and support to help your child thrive.

The spacious toddler room at Smallworld Nursery features designated areas for role play, quiet activities, messy play, and physical play. Children are encouraged to explore these areas freely and choose from a variety of jigsaw puzzles, games, and construction toys. In addition, our skilled staff lead regular baking activities to further engage young learners.

To ensure a smooth transition to the main nursery, our team members from the 3-5 years group visit the toddler room to introduce children to various activities, including those in their own area, as well as opportunities to integrate with children in the main nursery. This includes art, craft, sand, and water activities.

We understand that some children in this room may be ready for toilet training, and our team is committed to partnering with parents to provide support during this significant milestone of development.

Toddler Development

Toddlers undergo significant physical, cognitive, and emotional changes in their critical development phase. They learn to communicate, develop independence, and form strong attachments with caregivers. The Solihull Approach, integrated into our play policy, emphasises nurturing relationships with caregivers that provide emotional warmth, consistency, and responsiveness to support healthy emotional development. A safe and stimulating environment is also crucial, encouraging exploration, creativity, and learning. Prioritising these factors helps support healthy toddler development and lays the foundation for lifelong well-being.
